Deb Koo‘s oil paintings encompass a wide range of subjects and styles, unified by a focus on emotional resonance and everyday life. Her works explore themes of identity, relationships, and human desires, often using vibrant or muted palettes to evoke different moods. Koo’s paintings act as surrogate self-portraits, memories, and hopeful futures, drawing from media, mundane moments, and personal experiences. Koo holds an MFA in Western Painting from Ewha Womans University, Seoul (2017) and a BA in Studio Art from Smith College, Northampton, MA (2013). She has exhibited internationally, including solo shows such as “With Sugar on Top” at Tchotchke Gallery, Brooklyn (2023), and “Sweet” at Sozo Gallery, Charlotte (2022).
